Vititus (Lithuanian Honey Liqueur): Submitted by: Vickie | Date Added: 24 Feb 2016 Ingredients:

1 1⁄2 c honey
2⁄3 c water
1 vanilla bean
1⁄4 t nutmeg
8 cinnamon sticks
2 whole cloves
1 lemon, zested without any of the white pith; peeled & cut into strips
750 ml vodka

Cooking Instructions:

Combine honey with water, vanilla, spices and lemon peel in a large metal percolator. Bring to a boil and let it perk for about 7 minutes. Remove from heat; add vodka.

When slightly cooled, strain and pour into a sterilized quart jar or heat-proof bottle. Can be served warm or cold.

(Cook's note: This liqueur is also known as Krupnikas, Virytas or Grietai Pagamintas Krupnikas and is a traditional drink in Lithuania!)
Another version uses orange instead of lemon: Bring the same amount of honey & water, 3 cloves, 2 vanilla beans to boil. Simmer 5 minutes & cool to warm temp. Fill a large bottle or covered container with the zest & peel of 1 large orange & 3.5 c Jim Beam. Let sit for 1 month. Strain into bottles for gifts.)
