1/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 cups sifted cake flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour milk
1. Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg, beat well.
2. Sift all of the dry ingredients together three times.
3. Add the dry mix to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk as you do.
4. Bake in a greased tube pan at 350 degrees F for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in middle of cake.
5. Cool for 5 minutes, release from pan. Cool completely.
6. Ice with favorite frosting or glaze.
